The Anglo Saxons
We will be studying all about how the Anglo Saxons lived and what they believed. During the first week, we had an exciting WOW Day, where we learnt about the Norse Gods, found out important dates, we acted out the story of Beowulf and created our own Kennings.
This term in science, we will be learning about the properties and the changes of materials. In this topic, we will be planning and conducting lots of experiments whilst developing our knowledge we have gained in Years 3 and 4.
This term, the children have the opportunity to develop their writing skills by retelling the famous legend Beowulf, writing an argument "Was the Anglo- Saxon period really a Dark Age?" and through creating our own gruesome legends. This half term we will study a book called Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo.
Year 5 will also focus on developing an understanding of how to use expanded noun phrases, relative clauses, how to punctuate speech and how to include cohesion within a paragraph.
Please remember to listen to your child read every evening and ask lots of how and why questions.

What type of person do you think (main character) is? How do you know? Can you find evidence from the text to back up your answer?
This term we will be developing our different ball passes and receives, the children will be outside in the MUGA for the majority of their PE lessons on a Thursday morning. The children will also have a dance lessons, on Wednesday afternoons, in the school hall.
Please ensure outdoor PE kit is available at all times in school.
This term, the children will be learning about Anglo- Saxons.
Each child will have the opportunity to discover who the Anglo-Saxons are and why they settled in England, use archaeological evidence to find out more about the Sutton Hoo ship burial and discuss if the Anglo- Saxon period really is a "Dark Age"?
In Science, this term, the children will be learning all about different materials.
The children will have the opportunity to investigate different materials that dissolve in a liquid and discover ways to recover the substance from a solution.
The class will also gain an understanding of separating materials in liquids by filtering, sieving and evaporating.
This half term, we are discussing how and why Christians read the Bible? We will look into the impact the Bible has on Christians and making the connection to our lives.

This half term the children will develop their understanding of the number system. We will focus on place value, negative numbers and mental strategies for solving calculations.
We will be developing an understanding of the angles of a triangle and use real life scenarios to develop measurement knowledge.
The children will also have the opportunity to consolidate their understanding of how to use written and mental methods to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
This term, we will be developing our techniques with chalk, charcoal and wax crayons through the skill of creating silhouettes.
