Church of England School of the Resurrection

Belong, Believe, Achieve

PSHE statment of intent

PSHE is a subject area that is close to our hearts. We set out to provided our children with the necessary skills, information and aspirations so that they can become responsible citizens of our future.  At the C of E School of the Resurrection,  personal, social and health education (PSHE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

Manchester Healthy School

As a school we work closely with the Manchester Healthy Schools Team. Each year we complete an online Healthy School's Health Check, this enables us to assess our strengths and weakness within the health area of the PSHE curriculum and across the wider school. We have currently achieved the bronze award and are working towards obtaining the silver award. This year our Healthy School priority is Drugs and Alcohol. We have formed an action plan for the year with our Healthy School specialist and we will be working towards these targets with staff, pupils and the wider community.

At C of E School of the Resurrection we use Heartsmart to deliver our PSHE curriculum. Heartsmart is a powerful toolkit that helps us to live with emotional intelligence and self mastery. It is a creative approach we use to build character, emotional health and resilience in our children. Equipping children with foundational principles and skills that will improve their mental health and relationships and academic achievement, at our school we want everyone to know that they are loved, cared for and valuedWe are able to learn about how to lead our heart, when to lead from our hearts, how to process pain, how to hope and how to love others. This is an essential part of learning how to live our lives.
