Inspiring ALL to Belong, Believe, Bear Fruit

At CESTR, we use Read, Write Inc and Talk for Writing to support our writing curriculum.

Using Pie Corbett’s ‘Talk for Writing’ model for teaching narrative writing skills we aim to achieve high quality writing and a love of literacy. We strive to increase reading experiences and deepen understanding. There are daily phonics, spelling or sentence level games to release inhibitions, generate ideas and extend vocabulary, develop creative thinking and grammatical understanding. These activities will act as ‘building blocks’ for writers thus improving content and composition.

Our school follows Ruth Miskin's Read, Write Inc. phonics scheme of work to support our early writing. During these sessions, children in Early Years and Key Stage One complete writing activities linked to the text they are reading as the 'Get Writing' part of the lesson. This could be a hold a sentence, proofread, a spelling, grammar or punctuation activity or a short piece of writing about the text.
