Strategies for the use of Information Communication Technology

 Although ICT is a National Curriculum subject in its own right, it is also seen as a cross-curricular strand in the National Curriculum and indications for its use is given in most subjects. Therefore, the emphasis of our teaching of ICT is on the teaching of ICT skills and knowledge and the application and development of these skills and knowledge in a variety of contexts, throughout the curriculum.

 ICT is also seen as a tool to be used throughout the curriculum to support and enrich children's  learning. Therefore

  •  all classes (including nursery) offer children experience in ICT and we are continuously reviewing and monitoring in order to expand the experiences offered.
  • computer use is carefully managed so that all pupils are given equal access.  Each class, in Key Stage 1 and 2, have a dedicated slot in the computer suite at least once per week for a minimum of 1 hour. T    
  • further access is provided by classroom computers and a network of wireless laptops, all of which have a range of curriculum software installed and are able to access the internet.
  • all pupils are made familiar (at as early a stage as possible) with basic aspects of disc and printer management and efficient use of the keyboard and mouse.
  • activities using ICT are sometimes allied to other work carried out away from the computer.
  • as pupils progress through the school they are given increasing control of their use of ICT, gaining growing independence in their use of ICT as a tool appropriate to any given activity. 

Planning for ICT.

  • Teachers make use of the "Switched On Computing scheme of work", which is available for each year group but they supplement this with a range of additional resources.
  • Children with Special Educational Needs are often supported through  additional access to ICT, particularly for recording purposes. 
  • A set of Learn Pads have been purchased specifically to support children with SEND.
