Early Years Art
The children’s’ learning and development is planned around the EYFS Learning Goals. Art in the early years promotes interest, confidence and expression which will feed into writing and numeracy for core subjects as the children progress. Motor skills are refined and practised. Use of colour stimulates and provides an enjoyable and welcoming learning environment when art is displayed.
Key Stage 1 Art (Year 1 and 2)
to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products.
to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination
to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space
about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.
Key Stage 2 Art (Year 3,4,5 and 6)
Art this year includes different artists and designers for each year group. Some of the Artists each class will be looking at are as follows:
Year 1 - Kandinsky and Andy Goldsworthy
Year 2 - Alma Woodsey Thomas and Henry Rousseau
Year 3 - LS Lowry, JMW Turner and Antoni Gaudi
Year 4 - William Morris artists from the Impressionist movement
Year 5 - Andy Warhol and various war artists
Year 6 - Vincent Van Gogh and Picasso
Each class will also focus on developing artistic skills. The following grid shows the progression of skills throughout each year group.
